Detox with water

Hey,

By the time many of you read this I’ll be relaxing up north at a friend’s cottage… oh, who am I kidding I’ll be stuck in gridlocked traffic!

Times like this i wish I had a helicopter!

Anyways I had meant to send you video of a client talking about her experience but due to a power outage I was unable to get what I needed, so it will have to wait until next time.

But for now, am I the only one loving this heat wave?

A unique way of staying cool

It got me thinking of water, yes its boring and plain but oh so vital. Just to give you a little review here are some facts;

  • Regulates body temperature
  • Helps your metabolism
  • Helps organs to absorb nutrients
  • Moisturizes your joints

Yadda yadda yadda you probably know most of that. But do you know that it is one of the best things to help detoxify your body?

As I wrote about in ‘should you detox’ most weight loss detox formulas aren’t worth poop, which is ironic cause that’s all they’ll make you do, poop and pee, and not having any lasting effects!

Seeing how every cell in your body needs water, it’s importance cant be underestimated.

  • When it comes to eliminating waste water and fiber go hand in hand. Not enough water will cause constipation which in turn cause waste to stay in your body longer.
  • Some studies have even shown drinking healthy amounts of water may reduce the risks of bladder and colon cancer. The theory being water dilutes the concentration of these agents in the urine and shortens the time in which they are in contact with the bladder lining.
  • Along those same lines the accumulation of toxic waste can cause infection, inflammation and pain.
  • Toxins are stored in your fat cells, and your body will not release this fat unless it is adequately hydrated. The more fat on your body the more toxins you are holding.

So how much water should you be drinking? No one knows for sure but a good starting point is half your bodyweight in ounces. So myself for example last I checked I was about 190lbs (of twisted steel and sex appeal baby!) so that would mean 95oz or 2.8 liters. Which is quite simple to get in, I would have 500ml (a typical sized bottle of water) 6 times in a day. Again this is just a guideline, if you’re spending time out in this heat you’ll need to up it!

Should You Detox?

It's all about marketing

Exotic detoxification diets have become a lucrative subsection of the diet industry. Touted as a quick and healthy way to lose a few pounds, if you buy their special supplements!

Unfortunately most of these special supplements cause more of a water weight loss rather than a body fat loss. And when you return to your regular eating all that lost weight comes back.

Also most are very calorie restrictive. Which if followed for to long cause a lost of muscle, which in turn slows down your metabolism, which ironically can weaken your immune system which makes you more susceptible to toxins, so you are right back to where you started!

Most of these restrictive detox weight loss programs are nothing more than repackaged fad/crash diets.

Luba warriors

So forget about that any special herbs that the Luba tribesmen would eat. Your best bet to eat a healthy mixture of proteins, healthy fats and controlled amount of carbohydrates while staying active. Boring, but effective.

Fat loss leg workout


Alternate between exercise ‘A’ exercises until you’ve done three sets of each one. Then do the same for the ‘B’ exercises. Finish off the work out with some calf raises, and an abdominal exercise. Enjoy stairs/sitting/ walking over the next few days!

Stay tall for all of your lifts. Use this program for 4-8 weeks. Each time you do the work out go up in weight (unless you don’t get all of your reps.)

Exercises:
A1- front lunges
A2- back lunges

B1-Plie Lunges
B2- split squats

C1-calf raise exercise 3 sets, 10-15 reps
C2- Abs 3 sets, 10-20reps
